Police Seize Drugs From Drug Bust
After a narcotics bust last year, a Miami policeman involved in the investigation is alleged to have stolen cocaine and marijuana for his own purposes, the Miami Herald reports.
The bust was made in May of 2010, when law enforcement investigators wrapped up a drug case, arresting a suspect identified only as “L.R.” and seizing a large amount of narcotic substances from his window-tinting shop. As court affidavits allege, the officers working the case made a major breakthrough when they contacted a confidential informant, or CI, in January of 2010, who helped them in the undercover investigation. With the help of their informant, the accused officer and his superior were able to gather enough evidence to bust L.R. and make their case.
Former Marine Found With Confiscated Drugs In Truck
According to the prosecution, three weeks after the arrest of the suspect and seizure of his illegal narcotics, FBI agents questioned the accused officer about his involvement in the case and the whereabouts of some of the drugs. When the officer allowed them to search his truck, the agents found ten bags of cocaine, as well as two bags of marijuana.
The officer admitted to the federal agents that he and his superior had taken possession of the narcotics, as well as a large sum of money, that they had found at the tint shop. Affidavits filed by federal prosecutors allege that some of the money and several more bags of drugs had been used to pay the CI who had helped with the bust.
If convicted of the charges against him, which include possession of controlled substances and intent to sell, the Miami police officer could face up to 20 years in prison.
