Woman Charged with Robbing Little Girl’s Dog

By The Law Offices of Hager & Schwartz, P.A.  Feb. 23, 2012 4:48p

A 10-year-old girl was walking her dog near Pride Park when the dog ran from her into the park around 4:20 in the afternoon. The little girl chased after her dog and was able to catch it. She was holding the animal, a pit bull terrier, by the collar when the incident occurred. A woman began yelling that the dog was being abused. The 57-year-old woman drove her car up to the girl, got out and attempted to take hold of the pit bull. The 10-year-old was able to keep her hold on her dog until the older woman pushed her down. The woman then took the dog and left the scene in her car. Local sheriff’s deputies were called in regard to the incident. The woman that took off with the dog was soon after identified and arrested. The 57-year-old was held at the local jail on charges of robbery. Have you been charged with a crime in southern Florida? More about Miami Robbery Charges

Robbery charges may be treated more harshly and aggressively by law enforcement and criminal prosecutors because of the physical violence involved with such crimes. Robbery differs from many other theft crimes, such as shoplifting or burglary for instance, because by definition it includes depriving another of their rightful property through use of physical force or threat of harm. A defendant convicted of robbery may receive severe penalties including years of imprisonment.
