Police Pursuit ends in Crash and Arrest of Man Wanted for Probation Violation
By Stahlman Law PC
Cobb County Sheriff Deputies recently took a Marietta man in custody who had an arrest warrant out on him for probation violation. He has also been charged with additional offenses including receipt of stolen goods. The suspect, A.K., was driving a black BMW when Sheriff's deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. It was not clear in the reports on the incident what prompted the initial traffic stop and whether or not the BMW had been reported as stolen. The driver allegedly refused to stop for the deputies and sped away. The deputies pursued the vehicle down Powers Ferry Road until it crashed with another car near South Marietta Parkway. The BMW and a SUV collided and effectively ended the pursuit. A.K. was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Reports do not indicate if anyone else was hurt in the collision. A.K. was arrested after his release from the hospital later that day. He is being held without bond for felony charges of fleeing a police officer, probation violation, theft by receiving stolen property and a number of misdemeanor charges including speeding and reckless driving.
Speak with a criminal defense attorney immediately if you have been accused of violating your probation. If you have been convicted of a crime and released on probation then it is very important that you fully understand the terms of your probation and comply with them. A probation violation can result in the issuance of a warrant for your arrest. Once arrested, you face the possibility of incarceration and other penalties that may be even more harsh than those you were sentenced for in the original conviction. Do not try to face the court on your own if you have been unfairly accused of violating probation! You deserve to have a fair hearing and your rights and freedom aggressively defended.
