Rob Heroy joined Goodman Carr as a partner in 2012. He previously worked as an assistant district attorney in the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office and as a partner at the law firm of Tin, Fulton, Walker & Owen.

He represents clients in criminal matters in both state and federal courts in Charlotte and throughout North Carolina. He represents criminal clients in state court matters ranging from traffic matters and DWI cases to serious felonies such as large-scale drug trafficking conspiracies, robberies, and homicide charges. He also represents individuals who have been federally indicted or targeted in the Western and Middle Districts of North Carolina for drug and weapons charges as well as white collar crime. He is licensed to practice before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the Board of Immigration Appeals. His cases have been prominently featured in media including the L.A. Times, MSNBC, the Charlotte Observer, and Geraldo at Large.

Rob represents individuals on a wide range of immigration matters including detention and removal and post-conviction relief. He regularly represents individuals in the Charlotte, Stewart and Atlanta Immigration courts, but conducts hearings in other courts throughout the country as well. Additionally, he represents detainees in bond hearings through the immigration courts and has also challenged their detention through habeas corpus proceedings. In a number of cases, he has been able to obtain post-conviction relief for criminal convictions which have caused adverse immigration consequences through motions for appropriate relief. He has spoken at a number of CLE’s throughout North Carolina on immigration law.


Rob was named by Business North Carolina to the Legal Elite in 2010, 2011, and 2012 for criminal defense, an award in which the magazine polls all attorneys in North Carolina to vote for the top attorneys in their field. Martindale Hubbell has rated him as an AV lawyer, their highest rating for legal ability. Martindale also lists him as having a 4.9 out of 5.0 client rating. He has a 10 out of 10 rating on Avvo.com He was selected to the Mecklenburg County Bar Leadership Institute in 2011. He is involved in the Immigrant Outreach Project and received pro bono honors from North Carolina’s Legal Aid in 2011.
