The Christopher Dorner Manifesto

In the past week, a former LAPD officer named Christopher Dorner has killed three people associated with a manifesto that he posted on his Facebook page. The ex-officer was fired from his position, and chose to create a list of offenders who he threatened to kill in retaliation for the termination of his employment. As well, Dorner claims that because losing his job has damaged his reputation and his ability to ever have a family, he will not spare the lives of any family members associated with his victims. In his own words, Dorner wants to bring “warfare” on the LAPD. So far, Dorner has killed one police officer and murdered the daughter and future son-in-law of another officer that was on his list. He killed his first victim only six days ago.

The LAPD squads have been on the lookout for this violent criminal ever since the first murder took place, and they have placed the entire region of Southern California on Blue Alert. Officers most recently suspected that he may be barricaded in a cabin in the San Bernardino Forest. The suspected murderer may be inside a cabin in the woods which is just south of Big Bear Lake. ABC News reports that police officers found Dorner’s truck up in the San Bernardino Mountains a few days ago, but it had been burned out to terminate all evidence. The police have chased Dorner all the way to the Mexican border, but have now turned their focus back to the mountains suspecting that Dorner is inside one of the log cabins up in the snow.

Sources say that Dorner invaded a cabin that belonged to a family and held members hostage while he stole their vehicle. Two women escaped from the cabin and were determined to be unharmed. Dorner then allegedly exchanged gunfire with LAPD officers who came to the cabin to determine whether or not he was there. The officers have not been able to put out their guns and have automatic weapons in present. Two officers have been airlifted to local hospitals in the area after being wounded in the gunfire. The police have sealed all roads going into the area and have imposed a no-fly zone over the cabin. There are four Big Bear schools in the area that have been placed on lockdown at present.

If caught, Dorner faces capital murder charges for the killing of Michael Crain. The Riverside police officer was gunned down in a Dorner ambush last Thursday. If Dorner is caught the charge may come with the death penalty. Dorner has not yet been issued formal charges for the killing of Monica Quan and her fiancé who were shot to death on February 3rd. Quan was the daughter of an LAPD captain Randal Quan who was on Dorner’s online manifesto. The LAPD has issued a $1 million reward to anyone who can locate Dorner, which is the biggest prize every issued in the history of the police department. While the reward has motivated thousands of people to call in with possible leads, not all people have been accurate with their information. The 50 policeman who were listed on Dorner’s Facebook manifesto are being guarded by police officers, but they are still in fear for their lives.

Whenever a criminal pulls a public and dramatic stunt like this one, it can lead to serious consequences. Dorner may receive the death penalty for his actions if he can be caught and sent to trial. If you have been arrested for murder or a violent crime, or even just for threatening a family member or associate over an online medium, the punishments can be significant. In light of the Dorner case, the law enforcement will be particularly sensitive to online threats in the upcoming months.
