Man Faces Severe Sentencing for Stolen Credit Card Conviction

By De Castroverde Law Group  Nov. 26, 2012 10:56a

A Las Vegas man must wait till late February to be sentenced in a case involving stolen credit card and debit card numbers and illegally obtained gift card numbers. 28-year-old R.M. was recently convicted of six federal felony counts for charges of possession of over 60 counterfeit or unauthorized access devices, aggravated identity theft, conspiracy and criminal forfeiture. An FBI investigation resulted in the serious theft and fraud charges being brought against R.M. for allegedly obtaining stolen credit and debit card numbers as well as gift cards from someone in Pakistan. An assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting the case also argued that R.M. had managed to get credit card numbers off customer records that had been stolen from a Las Vegas hotel. Prosecutors said the defendant used special software which made it possible to get gift card numbers and use them. The electronics, cash and other items that were obtained through credit card and gift card fraud were confiscated and used as evidence against R.M. Investigators are also trying to track down and prosecute individuals who may have bought stolen card numbers from R.M. Punishment Could Include Severe Fines and Imprisonment

R.M. could be sentenced for 12 years or more in federal prison plus be forced to pay up to $250,000 in fines. Theft crimes involving credit card fraud, identity theft or other such accusations are tenaciously pursued by investigators for local and federal agencies alike. Charges for these offenses can seriously impact your personal and professional reputation and a conviction could mean the loss of your rights and liberty for a long time.
