By Dichter Law Office  Aug. 8, 2011 11:15a

A 37-year-old father of three was walking home at around 11:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle that promptly fled the scene. When emergency help arrived, the man was pronounced dead from extensive injuries. Police found a few missing parts from the car which had struck the man; the vehicle was missing its right side mirror and had extensive damage to the hood and front bumper as it had been ripped off during impact.

Driver Turns Himself In

Within a short period of time, a 19-year-old man turned himself in. He told police that he was going about 45 miles per hour and was texting while driving when he hit the victim. He also admitted to police that he rushed his car to a mechanic shortly after the accident to have the damages repaired. The young man was charged with second degree manslaughter, tampering with evidence, failure to perform the duties of a driver after an accident and two counts of driving on a suspended license. Even though the young man had no intention of causing an accident, his attention went off the road and the tragedy occurred.
