Newspaper Delivery Man Tips Off Police to Burglaries in Progress

By Kernan & Austin  Jul. 11, 2011 10:49a

Per a recent police report in Palm Bay, a local newspaper delivery man helped police stop five burglary suspects by his keen observation and his reporting of the suspicious activity he observed to the police. Alert citizens are of great advantage to police and are instrumental in curbing crime.

Crime Spree Uncovered

The newspaper delivery man stated that he was in the Myakka and Hunan Street area at approximately 3:00 a.m. this past Wednesday when he noticed two black males who were walking. He asked them if they needed any help as he approached them and they responded no. Shortly thereafter, the delivery man heard a car alarm sound off nearby so he called to alert the police.

The officers responding to the call found one of the suspects who had fled the scene on foot and apprehended another within a short time. Five suspects total were found in the area and are now facing burglary charges in connection with several vehicles. Police stated they believe they were on a crime spree which involved a number of victims and some of the stolen property has already been recovered.

Car Fishing is a Burglary Technique

When a burglar walks along a street checking the door handles of parked cars to see if they are unlocked, this is called fishing. These burglars were using this technique and were mostly stealing electronics, targeting vehicles with unlocked doors. All five of the male suspects were eighteen years of age. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending according to police.
