Marijuana Grow Operation Found in Plainfield

By Law Office of Michael P. Schmiege, PC  Mar. 11, 2013 12:27p

A two-story home that looked just like any other on a suburban street in Plainfield, Illinois turned out to contain an extensive marijuana growing operation. Police who recently investigated found approximately 5,000 grams of marijuana worth about $500,000 at the site. A man was arrested and charged with drug-related felonies in connection with the operation, including manufacturing and delivery and possession of a controlled substance. The federal Drug Enforcement Agency was involved in the investigation and arrest of the man by Plainfield police in what was described by the Plainfield police chief as the biggest operation of its kind that he had ever seen. Every room in the house was used to grow marijuana except for one bedroom, a bathroom, and the garage.

Besides marijuana plants, police also found 65 pounds of the substance, along with equipment used for the operation as well as the illegal drug known as Ecstasy. Holes had been drilled into the foundation to illegally use electricity. Electrical wiring and an irrigation system had been jerry rigged to support the indoor operation, which involved the entire growing cycle from seeds to mature plants. From the outside, no one would have suspected what the home was being used for. The police involved would not say how the home came under suspicion.
