City Worker Arrested in Fatal Hit and Run Incident

By Law Offices of Okabe & Haushalter October 23, 2013

A San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department worker was recently taken into custody on suspicion of hit and run. The incident happened on a recent weekday afternoon when a 35-year-old woman, C.S., was enjoying some time at Holly Park with her baby (11 months old) and her dog. She was lying down in the grass under a tree when a vehicle struck her and then left the scene. Witnesses called emergency services and police and emergency medical personnel soon arrived. The woman was found to be non-responsive and had suffered severe injuries to her head and chest. The baby and dog were not injured. She was rushed to a local hospital where she was declared dead. Witnesses at the scene told police that the vehicle that struck the woman was a city truck. The driver was apparently tending to duties at the park and was traveling on the pedestrian path when he left it and drove across the grass to the adjoining street. Officers went in search of the truck and its driver and found T.B., 57 years old, not too long after. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of hit and run. Have you been arrested for a crime? City Worker Didn't Know He Hit Anyone

The city worker accused of hitting the victim and leaving the scene co-operated with police and stated that he didn't know he hit someone which was why he left the area. He said he had deviated from the pedestrian path because it was obstructed and then crossed a grassy area to the road. He met up with his supervisor and other co-workers and mentioned that he thought he might have hit something but did not expect that it was a person. He and his supervisor were on their way back to the park to check it out when police found him. The investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing.
