Police Investigating Vandalism in Kansas

Topeka, Kansas - it is being reported that police are looking into two incidents of graffiti (vandalism).  Both incidents occurred at USD 501 Topeka Public Schools.

The vandalism took place at Topeka High School and Robinson Middle School.  Since the incidents, efforts have been made to clean the brick buildings as the vandals had spray painted words and art that were hate crime driven.

Topeka Police Lieutenant Thomas Glor said that the vandals used, "language that was anti-black."  He reports that the incident at Topeka High School took place this past Saturday and that the middle school was targeted early Monday morning.  The graffiti that appeared on the walls of the middle school spelled out the n-word.  Many of the students that came to school on Monday and noticed the words were embarrassed, said the school's principal, Tammy Hazelton.

Monday afternoon, Principal Hazelton took the time to speak with the students about diversity.  Another spokesperson from the school said that the speech was given to let students, "know that the school relishes in its diversity and to not let it reflect on them."
At this time, law enforcement believes that both incidents are related and they are looking at surveillance tapes from each school.
