Physician Charged with Drug Crimes

Physicians beware: if you attempt to sell prescriptions illegally to "patients", you could pay the price like Dr. Nazar Al Bussam of Newport Coast now is. The 71-year-old doctor has been on the federal radar since 2007 when a review of databases revealed that he was one of the top ten prescribers of widely abused and addictive narcotics in the area.

Al Bussam has allegedly been selling prescriptions for drugs like Vicodin, Norco, and OxyContin for $100 a pop, netting him an extra $1 million per year. In addition to the arrrest of several of his "patients" in Texas and California who had gone on to further sell the drugs, it is reported that Al Bussam sold scrips to undercover agents as well.

The doctor did not work alone in the drug crimes trade - his assistants James Park, 72, and Rosemary Mendoza, West Covina, were all charged with engaging in criminal conspiracy to distribute drugs.
