Jail Guards Caught Smuggling Drugs to Inmates

Officials in Los Angeles County have had several jailers accused of smuggling drugs to inmates. One such case is going to court this month and could land the suspect himself behind bars. According to the official report, 24-year-old R.O. was under suspicion of smuggling narcotics to inmates with intention to sell. Once the internal affairs department heard the rumors, it opened up a full-scale investigation.

After months of watching the custody employee, the department was able to obtain enough evidence to arrest him. R.O., who has worked at the jail for four years, was charged with transportation of a controlled substance with intent to sell, bribery, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. All three charges are considered felonies under state law. Over the past few years, three guards have been accused of committing similar drug crimes. A fourth guard lost his job after being found guilty of smuggling drugs into the prison system. Facing drug crime charges? Don't wait to get a criminal defense lawyer involved in your case.
