Son of Boston Red Sox Broadcaster Pleads Not Guilty to Murder

Though soaked in the victim's blood, and with two eye witnesses, the son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, has entered a plea of not guilty in the stabbing death of his girlfriend, as reported by the Providence Journal and other news media outlets.

The day before the murder of J.M., 27, Remy's son Jared Remy had been released from police custody – he had been held as J.M. had accused him of assaulting her.

On August 16 Remy was charged with murder and domestic assault and battery in the Waltham District Court.

On August 15, after receiving repeated 911 emergency calls, police officers arrived at a Waltham apartment complex at approximately 10 p.m. According to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, J.M. was located on an outside patio with multiple stab wounds.

Prosecutors described the attack as both brutal and determined, and painted a grisly scene that included Remy's assault of J.M. in the kitchen, living room and finally, the patio. The final spot was where Remy allegedly held J.M. to the ground and fatally stabbed her.

According to Middlesex Assistant District Attorney Lisa McGovern, neighbors that tried to interfere were similarly threatened by a knife-wielding Remy.

Officers arrested Remy at the scene. He was covered in J.M.'s blood.

The day before the murder, on August 14, Remy had been released in an open assault and battery case on his personal recognizance. Allegedly J.M. was the victim in the case. However, she did not have an active restraining order against Remy in place.

Beginning in 1998 Remy's criminal history included no less than 15 charges. According to Waltham court records some of those charges included the assaults of five people. Four of the five were women. There was a minimum of three restraining orders.

Remy is currently held without bail. His attorney has yet to comment to the press.

J.M. was not alone in her apartment at the time of the murder. Her four year-old child, who was unharmed, has been placed in the custody of state child welfare officials. There is no word as to whether Remy is the father of the child.

Jerry Remy was a Red Sox baseman prior to becoming a broadcaster in 1988.

The Red Sox employed Jared Remy in security prior to being fired in 2009 amidst a Major League investigation of steroid use in the clubhouse.

The Red Sox have yet to comment, however, a statement by the NESN read, "All of us at NESN and the Red Sox, along with Jerry Remy, are filled with grief for everyone involved, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family of (J.M.)"

Jerry Remy, who has been dealing health issues prior to his son's arrest, will have Dennis Eckersley fill in for him for a few weeks.
