Denver Man Gets 20 Years for Robbery

A 21-year-old man was recently given his sentence after pleading guilty to felony aggravated robbery. Denver PD arrested the man, J.M., after an incident in early October of last year. J.D. was charged in the robbery of a cellphone store where he and another man, 23-year-old M.S., were reported to have been armed with handguns. Two employees and no customers were in the store at the time of the robbery. One employee was assaulted and then tied up. One of the robbers was said to have fired a gun while in the store but no one was injured. As the two men left the store M.S. attempted to carjack an SUV from a man that had just pulled up to the location. Police were on the scene as M.S. was trying to get the car from its owner when he fired the gun for a second time. M.S. then reportedly pointed the weapon at the officers whereupon the officers shot and killed the man. J.M. was taken into custody at that time. J.M. was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for his role in the armed robbery. The district attorney's office reviewed the officer-involved shooting and deemed that police were justified in opening fire on the man because he had pointed the weapon at them. Armed robbery is taken very seriously by the criminal justice system and, as seen in this instance, the penalties can be very severe if a conviction is obtained.
