Woman Faces Felony Charges for Child Endangerment

By Martin & Wallentine  Mar. 23, 2012 3:30p

The mother of a 2-year-old boy was in court recently for charges relating to an incident when her son fell out of a moving vehicle. The 21-year-old Kansas woman, R.F., was making a short trip just a few blocks away but didn’t have her son’s car seat with her. She used the car’s seat belt to buckle her son into one of the backseats. The trip to her destination occurred without incident but on the way back, the two-year-old managed to get free of the safety belts. He then opened one of the back doors of the car and fell out. R.F. said the music she had on was loud and she didn’t hear the door open. The toddler is in stable condition and in the custody of the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) at present. R.F. faces two misdemeanor charges for failure to have a child in safety restraints and driving without a license as well as a felony charge for aggravated child endangerment. If you have been charged with a felony in Johnson County, Wyandotte County or elsewhere throughout the state don’t hesitate to get the help of a Kansas City trial attorney skilled in criminal defense.

Penalties for Felony Offenses in Kansas

The penalties for a felony conviction vary depended on the severity and specifics of the alleged offense. Many penalties include substantial imprisonment (one to ten years or more) and hefty fines. Violent crimes such as aggravated assault, domestic battery or domestic violence, aggravated robbery, sex crimes and the like tend to have much harsher penalties. Nonetheless, drug crimes, shoplifting, burglary, criminal damage to property, forgery, identity theft and fraud can have serious punishment as well so it is crucial that you have strong defense in your corner.
