School Bus Driver Arrested on DWI Charges

The driver of a Midland Independent School District bus has been arrested and charged with three counts of DWI. The driver, 50 year old Susan Spear, was found to be driving under the influence of a prescription drug.

The bus was carrying three students, a bus monitor, and a teacher's assistant to the West Early Childhood Development Elementary School when it crashed into a Volkswaagen Jetta. After conducting field sobriety tests, a drug detection specialist concluded Spear was driving under the influence.

The Midland Independent School District stated that appropriate action would be taken regarding Spear's employment with the district.  MISD Director of Communication Woodrow Bailey said, "We are grateful that there were no injuries because the safety of our students is always our number one priority, whether on the bus or in the classroom."
