Police Respond to Severe Domestic Violence Incident

By Tyler & Wilson, LLP  Sep. 6, 2013 8:30a

A severe domestic violence incident ended in the fatal shooting of a man by Los Angeles Police officers. Authorities were called to a home on South Normandie at about 9:30 in the morning when neighbors reported hearing screaming next door. One neighbor said the woman next door was heard screaming "Help, help, I've been shot!" Officers arrived to find a man in his 70s standing in the backyard of the property. He had a handgun and refused to obey the officers' instructions. The confrontation escalated and officers were forced to open fire. The man was killed. He turned out to be the estranged husband of the woman inside the home. The wife, also in her 70s, was found and taken to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment of a gunshot wound to the ear. She was reported to be in stable condition and recovering after treatment. If you have been charged for inflicting injury with a deadly weapon or intimidating a partner then it is crucial that you talk to a domestic violence attorney immediately.

Criminal cases involving domestic issues can be extremely emotional. Recollections of what exactly occurred can be unclear when tempers were high and accusations may have been intentionally or unintentionally exaggerated. Sometimes things are said in the heat of the moment for which there was no intention of carrying out. Additionally, some people accused of battery or assault against a spouse, child, parent or domestic partner were actually acting in self defense. All these factors must be carefully investigated. Penalties for domestic violence can include serious incarceration and thousands in fines as well as probation, community service and others. You need someone on your side who will work aggressively to ensure your side of the matter is heard. Don't face domestic violence charges on your own! You deserve to have someone fighting for your rights and freedom.
